Coach Profile - Beth Heaton

I only became North East Wales Area Coach in October 2001, so I am finding out what the role entails at the moment. I didn't "do" computers or The Internet but apparently I do now!!

I first became interested in Scuba Diving when my family moved to Australia in 1964. My holidays were at the Barrier Reef where I spent most of my time in the water, but I was too young to dive. It wasn't until 1993 that I began diver training in Rhyl, not quite the same is it? I achieved Club Instructor in 1997, OWI in 1998 and gained Advanced Instructor in 1999, at the same time being training officer of Rhyl Branch, progressing to diving officer, which I am at present.

Due to there not being many courses being run in my area, I ventured towards Anglesey to attend SDCs. Then began organising and instructing on courses in my area. Now all the branches in my area run courses together and have become very active with their training, recently we have been running courses every second week.

For my personal diving, I will dive where there is water! But given the choice I enjoy wreck diving and hope to go down the trimix road in 2002. I also enjoy scenic diving with plenty of marine life especially Turtles.

I am hoping that in my new role I can continue to support the branches in my area with training, promote communication and co-operation between branches so that all members who wish to can take part in as many diving experiences as possible and be part of a comprehensive program of activities in the future.
